Reviews
Ronnie Scheib wrote in Variety magazine on June 11, 2007 that Mary Stuart Masterson brought the same directness and vulnerability into her directorial debut that would shape her portrayals. You transform a sentimental family drama Bartoks into a lively and unpretentious story. The locations in the provincial New York state would give the film authenticity. The "perfect" ("dynamite perf") portrayal of Kristen Stewart breaks clichés. The critic also praised the achievements of Elizabeth Ashley, Bruce Dern and Aaron Stanford.
The Rotten Tomatoes editorial team wrote that the film was subtle and structured. The "mature" portrayal of Kristen Stewart would wear it. The game of the veteran Bruce Dern is - as usual - one of the highlights. Jayce Bartok turns out to be a better screenwriter than an actor.
