Talia Balsam (born March 5, 1959 in New York ) is an American actress .

Life

Talia Balsam grew up as the daughter of the actor couple Martin Balsam and Joyce Van Patten . She attended from 1971 to 1974 the Treehaven School in Tucson ( Arizona ) and debuted in 1977 as an actress in the television drama Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn . In 1981 she played one of the bigger roles alongside Ellen Barkin in the television drama Death on Campus . She had another bigger role in 1984 in the Western Calamity Jane . She also took on a larger role in the 1987 comedy Casanova Junior, alongside Patrick Dempsey and Beverly D'Angelo . In the film drama The Game of Power , she appeared on the side of Sean Penn in 2006 .

Balsam was married to George Clooney from 1989 to 1993 . In 1998 she married John Slattery , with whom she has a son. She is the niece of Dick Van Patten and Tim Van Patten and the cousin of Vincent Van Patten .
