Carlo Sganzini (born May 1, 1923 in Gentilino , Canton Ticino ; † November 13, 2001 in Lugano ) was a Swiss lawyer , politician , alpinist and president of the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA) from 1984 to 1990.

Life and activities

Sganzini grew up in Bern as the son of Carlo Sganzini and Angiolina born Somazzi. He studied law at the University of Bern .

In 1954 he founded the law firm Sganzini, Bernasconi, Peter & Gaggini in Lugano. In 1958 he received his doctorate with the dissertation The Obligation to Pay In Payment Transactions With Foreign Countries .

In 1960 he began his political career as a member of the city parliament of Lugano, of which he was a member until 1984. From 1970 to 1984 he was Vice President of the Liberal Democratic Party (Partito Liberale Radicale PLR), which he represented in the Ticino Cantonal Council (Gran Consigilio) from 1969 to 1987.

He was a member of the SAC Bern and belonged to the 2nd generation of the Swiss Academic Ski Club (SAS). From 1980 to 1983 he was SAC Central President when the SAC Ticino section took over the Central Committee and later became an honorary member of the SAC Ticino.

From 1984 to 1990 he was UIAA President and 2001 Honorary Member.

He was married to Nella, born Camponovo, and had with her the children Giovanna, Francesca, Lorenzo and Luca .
