Carlos Agostinho do Rosário (born October 26, 1954 in Maxixe , Inhambane Province , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican economist and politician ( FRELIMO ). Since January 17, 2015, he has held the post of Prime Minister of Mozambique in the Nyusi cabinet .

Life

education

Rosário was born on October 26, 1954 in Maxixe, Inhambane Province. He studied economics at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (Bachelor) and later applied economics in sustainable agriculture and rural development (M. Sc.) At Wye College of the University of London .

From 1977 to 1983 Rosário worked as a part-time civil servant in the Economics and Finance Department of the Ministry of Public Buildings and Housing. From 1980 to 1982 he gave evening courses in economics at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane. In 1983 Rosário also worked as an economist at the Empresa Agrícola de Citrinos de Manica citrus farm.

Rise in state and party

In 1987 Rosário was appointed governor of the province of Zambezia , and he also received the post of first secretary of the FRELIMO provincial committee of Zambezia. Since 1989 he has been a member of the central committee of the FRELIMO party . In 1994 he won a seat in the national parliament in the first democratic parliamentary elections , but gave up immediately afterwards to serve as Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries in President Chissano's cabinet until 1999.

In 2002, Chissano appointed him High Commissioner for the Mozambican Mission in India and Sri Lanka. In 2009 he moved to Indonesia as ambassador, where he was also accredited as Mozambique's diplomatic representative for Singapore , Malaysia , Thailand and East Timor .

Appointment as Prime Minister

Rosário was appointed Prime Minister of Mozambique on January 19, 2015 by President Filipe Nyusi .
