Aires Bonifácio Baptista Ali (born December 6, 1955 in Unango ) is a Mozambican politician . He belongs to the Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (FRELIMO).

Life

Ali comes from the Niassa province in northern Mozambique. From 1976 he worked as a teacher at the FRELIMO Secondary School in Namaacha in the Namaacha district . In 1977 he became the director of the Francisco Manyanga Secondary School in Maputo . From 1980 to 1986 was Ali head of the State educational system ( Provincial Director of Education ) in the Nampula province in the east of Mozambique. In 1989/1990 he worked as the bureau chief of the then Minister for Education and Culture . From 1991–1992 he was National Director of School Social Welfare Programs, responsible for state funding programs for schools and other educational institutions.

1995–2000 he was Governor of Niassa Province, then 2000–2004 Governor of Inhambane Province in southern Mozambique.

In 2005 he became Minister of Education and Culture after the Ministry of Culture had been merged with the Ministry of Education, giving it the same layout as it was shortly after Mozambique's independence. In 2005, Ali replaced Minister Alcido Nguenha, who was suspected of corruption .

He was one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ).

On January 16, 2010 Aires Ali was appointed Prime Minister of Mozambique by Mozambican President Armando Guebuza . He thus succeeded Luísa Diogo . Ali is a longtime personal friend of Guebuza and has been traded as his possible successor.

On October 8, 2012, Ali was replaced by Alberto Vaquina as part of a government reshuffle . He later served as Mozambique's ambassador to the People's Republic of China , but was recalled by President Filipe Nyusi in October 2017 . His successor in Beijing was Maria Gustava .
