Carlos Obers

Carlos Obers (born November 2, 1940 in Buenos Aires as Karl-Dietrich Obers ) is a German copywriter and one of the best-known designers of advertising from the 1970s to the 2000s.

life and career

Obers was born in Argentina as the son of a manufacturer of elegant men's fashion . The family had fled to South America during the Second World War and returned to Germany after the end of the war, whereupon he spent the rest of his childhood in Bad Soden . Obers studied art at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main , theology at the Philosophical-Theological University Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main and philosophy under Theodor Adorno at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . After graduating, he worked as a bookseller, boxed on the side and became the Hessian light heavyweight champion in 1958. In the early 1960s, Obers organized book exhibitions and poetry readings on behalf of the Federal Government and the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels in countries with which the Federal Republic of Germany endeavored to establish diplomatic relations, such as Poland, SSR, Israel and Scandinavia. 1964 he became Head of Advertising and Press at R. Piper Verlag in Munich. From 1968 he became a copywriter for the European and international advertising agencies Dorland, DDB and GGK. Friendship with Bill Bernbach , the founder of modern advertising. Obers built up the creative department of the Wiesmeier agency in Munich and was press spokesman for the Art Directors Club (ADC) Germany from 1996 to 1998 . He was a member of the ADC jury from 1985 to 2000 and ADC President from 1998 to 2000. From 2004 to 2007 Obers was (until 2005 with Ono Mothwurf , from 2005 with Ekki Frenkler ) Creative Director for talent development at the Serviceplan Group for innovative communication . In 2007 Obers founded the luxury escort agency "Greta Brentano", in which he wanted to show completely new ways in escort. The women, exclusively artists, academics and actresses, are conceived as "muses" who, similar to the classic hetaires or courtesans, are intended to appeal to the target group of the cultured elite. Carlos Obers was married three times and has four children. Obers lives in Berlin.
