Carlos Vicente Squeo (born June 4, 1948 in Dock Sud, Partido Avellaneda ; † September 8, 2019 ) was an Argentine soccer player who took part in the 1974 World Cup in Germany with the national team of his home country .
Career
Club career
Carlos Squeo, born in June 1948 in Dock Sud, a small community in Partido Avellaneda , began playing football in the neighborhood at the Racing Club , where he was accepted into the first team in 1969. After the Racing Club had won the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup two years earlier , the performance of the team from the Estadio Presidente Perón went downhill rapidly. In the league, you couldn't even begin to intervene in the championship race. Only interrupted by a brief interlude in 1973 at CA Vélez Sársfield , Carlos Squeo played for the Racing Club from 1969 to 1977 and made most of his 305 league games for the club during this time and scored most of his 34 goals. In 1984 the attacker returned to his hometown club for a short time, but at the age of 36 he was not able to build on the performances shown in the old days.
In 1977 Carlos Squeo left the Racing Club for the first time for a long time and joined the Boca Juniors from the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . With Boca he won the Copa Libertadores in 1977. In the final, the team of coach Juan Carlos Lorenzo , which included players such as Hugo Gatti , Alberto Tarantini and Roberto Mouzo , prevailed against the Brazilian representative Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte , with the penalty shoot-out of the play-off being needed to win a winner bring about. After returning briefly to the Racing Club in 1984, Carlos Squeo ended his footballing career in 1987 in the jersey of the CA Alumni club at the age of 39.
National team
In 1973 and 1974, Carlos Squeo made nine international matches for the Argentine national football team . However, he did not succeed in scoring. He was appointed to the South American squad for the 1974 World Cup in Germany by national coach Vladislao Cap . The Argentine team reached the second group stage, but then dropped out as the last behind the Netherlands , Brazil and the GDR without a win. Squeo was used in the two games of the final round against the Netherlands (0: 4) and Brazil (1: 2)
