Carpzov
The Carpzov family (also Carpzow , Karpzov , Karpzow ) is a famous Saxon family of scholars from the 16th to 18th centuries. It comes from Simon Carpzow († 1580), who was mayor of the new town of Brandenburg in the middle of the 16th century . The family seat is the Carpzowsche Haus in Steinstrasse in Brandenburg an der Havel .
Simon Carpzov left two sons:

Benedikt Carpzov the Elder (1565–1624), Professor of Law.
He had five sons:- Benedikt Carpzov the Younger (1595–1666), a criminal lawyer and witch theorist who is considered one of the founders of German law, is one of the most famous.
- August Carpzov (June 4, 1612– November 19, 1683), made outstanding contributions to the country around Coburg as a statesman.
- Christian Carpzov (1605–1642) went to Frankfurt (Oder) as a professor of law .
- Konrad Carpzov became Professor of Law at the University of Wittenberg and Chancellor with the Administrator of Magdeburg .

Johann Benedikt Carpzov I (June 22, 1607 - October 22, 1657) was professor of theology in Leipzig . From 2010 his epitaph can be found again in the Paulinerkirche in Leipzig.
