Carsten Wilhelm Rodbertus (born March 9, 1961 ) is a former German entrepreneur and initiator and co-founder of the wind energy company Prokon . As managing director of the then corporation from 1995 to 2014, he built Prokon into one of the largest corporate groups in the renewable energies sector , but was relieved of his position after the initiation of insolvency proceedings in conflict with the insolvency administrator and shortly thereafter dismissed without notice.

Beginnings

Rodbertus completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and worked as an accountant in Hamburg . From 1985 to 1994 he worked in a medium-sized exhibition stand construction company, from 1989 head of finance and accounting. According to his own statement, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986 aroused his interest in renewable energies . Since 1993 he has been operating two wind turbines , each with an output of 110 kW, in Arkebek in the Dithmarschen district , which he named "Käthe" and "Paul" after his grandparents.

Prokon

In 1995 Rodbertus founded the company Prokon Energiesysteme together with Ingo de Buhr and a third partner . Due to different views on the future direction of the GmbH , de Buhr left in 1997. Rodbertus developed the company into a group of companies.

A company in the group, Prokon Regenerative Energien, filed for insolvency proceedings on January 22nd, 2014 . At the beginning of March 2014, Rodbertus planned to found a “Prokon Cooperative for a Future Worth Living”, the ideal of which would be to take over projects from the allegedly insolvent Prokon Regenerative Energie GmbH. The legal form of the cooperative was later replaced in favor of an AG.

On March 26, 2014, the Itzehoe district court ordered an immediate general prohibition of disposal for Rodbertus and two executives in order to secure the insolvency estate and to clarify the facts. On April 1, the provisional insolvency administrator Dietmar Penzlin announced that he had dismissed Rodbertus as managing director of Prokon and all subsidiaries. His work for the “Prokon Cooperative for a Future Worth Living i. G. “and his recent comments about Prokon had left no room for constructive cooperation; the dismissal should bring the necessary calm for the restructuring in the company; Rodbertus have left the company premises permanently. At the end of April, the company founder was given notice without notice, as Penzlin announced after the main insolvency proceedings were initiated on May 1, 2014.

In November 2014, Rodbertus agreed with the insolvency administrator to withdraw from the company with a mutual waiver of compensation claims.

According to Prokon

After the involuntary departure from his life's work, Rodbertus initially worked as a consultant for a newly founded Magdeburg company, whose name, Projects with a Concept for a Future Worth Living (PmK), clearly reminded of an earlier Prokon slogan and the cooperative planned in conflict with the insolvency administrator. The Stiftung Warentest announced that it would put the investment with the PmK on its “warning list” as soon as possible.

After Rodbertus had been sued by many investors personally for damages, he announced on September 19, 2014 via email to Prokon investors his personal bankruptcy on to it "probably no alternative" give. At the same time, he emphasizes that he has never personally enriched himself but has also "invested all of my savings and my full pension with Prokon in profit participation rights".

In March 2015, Rodbertus then worked, according to ZDF magazine Frontal21, as a production employee for a wood processing company, to which Prokon, with Rodbertus as managing director, had granted loans of 160 million euros.

Investigations

Since the summer of 2014, the Lübeck Public Prosecutor's Office has been investigating Rodbertus and other responsible parties for the delay in bankruptcy and fraud , after the corresponding reports had already led to the investigation of the initial suspicion at the end of 2013. In addition, it has been investigating corruption since April 2013 , as an employee of the Wesermarsch district who was planning locations for wind farms had received fee payments for three reports from Prokon as part of a sideline activity.

In September 2017, two proceedings against the managing directors around company founder Carsten Rodbertus were discontinued.
