Caspar de Latour

Caspar de Latour (born February 12, 1827 in Breil / Brigels , † February 21, 1861 in Chur ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician .

Life

Caspar de Latour attended the canton schools of Disentis and Chur from 1839 to 1846 . In Chur he became a member of the Swiss Zofinger Association in 1844 . From 1846 to 1848 he studied at the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg and the University of Bologna Law . In Heidelberg he joined the Corps Helvetia in 1847 . From 1848 to 1849 he served as a lawyer in the Italian army near Ancona and Bologna .

In 1849 he returned to Graubünden and in the same year was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Graubünden and, in 1853, Mayor of the Disentis district. From 1855 to 1856 was a member of the Bündner government council .

From July 1854 to June 1855 and from July to October 1857 he was a member of the Council of States for the Canton of Graubünden . From 1857 to 1861 he was a member of the Federal National Council , most recently as its vice-president. As a Catholic-liberal politician, he campaigned in particular for the parity canton school.

Promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Swiss Army in 1860 , he served as an inspector for Appenzell, Glarus and St. Gallen.
