Category 5 is a 2014 American disaster film directed by Rob King . It stars Burt Reynolds , C. Thomas Howell and Lisa Sheridan .

action

The film begins shortly before the Hurricane Katrina disaster . Charlie wants to flee the city and stops at his brother Danny to convince him to flee as well. However, he refuses to leave his house and together with his wife he wants to defend the home against looters. Charlie manages to at least convince his brother that he can take his niece Victoria with him.

Years later it becomes clear that Victoria's parents lost their lives. She is attending a high school and taking a meteorology course there. Another storm is on the horizon due to a volcanic eruption in the Gulf of Mexico . Victoria suspects that this storm could reach Category 5 . In order to warn the residents in good time, she and her friend Pete decide to go to the coast where the storm is expected and report exclusively about it.

Since Charlie's father lives in this region and does not answer calls, Charlie drives to his father to wait for him. His rebel son, Ethan, shorts out a car and follows him. Mother Ellie follows her family when she realizes this. When the grandfather arrives, he is just about to make his house stormproof and refuses to leave it. Meanwhile, Victoria and Pete begin their first reports near the coast.

Due to the fact that the birds were fleeing the storm, Pops decided to leave the house after all. The family fled to higher ground in order to escape any floods. They seek shelter in a house. Pops is shot by the house owner because he thinks the DuPuis family are looters. In addition, the son of the hostile family is buried under a beam. Together they manage to free the boy, but his father is hit by the storm. The survivors flee into the cellar.

Victoria loses control of the car due to the storm. Since her professor also publishes the school report on public television and radio, Charlie also gets to know what his niece is up to. Together with their son Ethan, they can save them.

criticism

"It's true to see old star Burt Reynolds (" Everyone dies first "," Boogie Nights "), who has been plagued by heart and financial problems for several years, in sluggish trash like this."

"A mild breeze with some good moments."
