Catherine Borghi (born September 23, 1976 in Ormont lingerie ) is a former Swiss ski racer . She specialized in the downhill and super-G disciplines.

biography

On November 26, 1994, Borghi drove for the first time in a World Cup race. At the Junior World Championships in 1995 in Voss , she was third in giant slalom and fifth in slalom . She won World Cup points for the first time on November 18, 1995 when she was 20th in the Vail Slalom .

At the beginning of her career, Borghi mainly drove in the technical disciplines, but then specialized in downhill and super-G. She was considered a great talent, but never made it to the top of the world, as she was often affected by serious injuries. Borghi achieved her best World Cup results in the 2001/02 season when she was fourth in the runs from Lake Louise on November 29, 2001 and Åre on February 2, 2002.

Borghi participated in two Olympic Games and four world championships . Her best results were twice eighth in the combination , at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and at the 1997 World Cup in Åre. On January 7, 2005, Catherine Borghi decided before the second downhill race in Santa Caterina to cancel her World Cup season. Until then, she had not yet recovered from the fractured bone on her left wrist that she suffered in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee a month ago . On the first descent from Santa Caterina, she was only 44th.

On March 6, 2008, Borghi announced her retirement from top-class sport. Two days later she competed in her last World Cup race, the downhill in Crans-Montana , which she finished in 39th place. The trained structural draftswoman has been working in the family-owned business in Les Diablerets since then and plans to take over this together with her brother in a few years.
