Cathie Turner

Cathie Turner (born October 4, 1962 in Rochester , New York ) is a former American short track runner.

Cathie Turner has been speed skating since she was a teenager. However, she ended her career very early and only returned to professional sport after nine years. In 1992 she took part in her first Olympic Games . The specialist for shorter distances won the gold medal over 500 meters and the silver medal with the relay at the first regular short track competitions in Albertville . She resigned after the Games and only returned to the ice seven months before the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer . At the games she again won the gold medal on the 500-meter course and bronze with the relay. Then she resigned again to return to the US team before the next Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998 , without being able to win a medal this time.

Turner holds a degree in computer science from Northern Michigan University . In 1992 she appeared as part of the Ice Capades on their "Made in America" ​​tour and thus marketed her gold medal. She also played a leading role in the film "High Stakes" and wrote a chapter in the book "Awaken the Olympian Within". For the television station ESPN Turner worked intermittently as a commentator.
