Celebrity is a three-part American television miniseries released in 1984. It aired February 14-16 on NBC television.
action
Three friends, TJ Luther, Mack Crawford and Kleber Cantrell, committed rape while they were young. While one of the friends rapes the girl, the other two hear the girl's screams or watch. The girl dies. Luther, Crawford and Cantrell promise to keep silent about this event. All three are successful in adulthood. One of the friends is a priest, another is a movie star, and the third is a journalist. Yet, in one way or another, the event haunts them for a lifetime. When the three meet again in adulthood, there is a fatal argument. One of the friends is shot, another is seriously injured, the third is the murderer. Which of the friends plays which role is only revealed at the very end of the series.

Celebrity is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Thompson . The series was shot in Texas, New York and Los Angeles. It is a total of 6.5 hours. The series was released on VHS in Germany, Great Britain and the United States . The series also aired in Spain, Finland, Turkey and Canada.

criticism
John J. Connor ( The New York Times ) explains that the series' main characters are impressive in their characters. He also speaks of a good script in which the events of the time are included, such as the Vietnam War or the assassination of John F. Kennedy . Tom Shales ( The Deseret News ) adds that the plot is very well planned. Arthur Unger (Monitor Magazine) explains that celebrity is easy to watch and that it is difficult to stop the show once it starts. The lexicon of international films ruled that celebrity was "solidly staged and acted". However, the series makes use of a few clichés and some inconsistencies arise.
