history

The Cesar Godeffroy was built at the Reiherstieg shipyard under the direction of Joachim Eduard von Somm and was launched in 1855 with hull number 15. The owner was the trading house Joh. Ces. Godeffroy & Son. The ship was named after the Hamburg merchant Johan Cesar Godeffroy , who ran the company.

The barque was initially used to transport emigrants from Hamburg to Australia and South Africa . Later it served the import-export business of Joh. Ces. Godeffroy & Son in the South Pacific. In 1872 she was sold to Thaulow in Sandefjord (Norway) and drove under a new name as Helene .
