Cesare Bernasconi

Cesare Bernasconi (born May 11, 1819 in Chiasso , † April 7, 1864 in Riva San Vitale ) was a Swiss politician . From 1855 to 1860 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

The son of a landowner graduated from the College of Servites in Mendrisio . He later obtained a commercial diploma in Modena and worked as a businessman . Together with his younger brother Costantino Bernasconi (later the National Councilor and Council of States ), he participated in the concession of the railway line between Chiasso and Bellinzona , which was finally realized by the Gotthard Railway Company . Bernasconi had the rank of lieutenant colonel in the military ; during the Risorgimento his house was a meeting place for many Italian refugees.

Bernasconi was on the side of the radical liberals and was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino in 1848. He was narrowly defeated in the National Council elections in 1854 , but the radicals challenged the results throughout the canton of Ticino, whereupon the Federal Assembly ordered a re-election. This took place in March 1855, whereupon Bernasconi moved into the National Council for the constituency of Ticino-South . He resigned after five years and remained a member of the Grand Council until 1861. From 1862 to 1864 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Tessiner Kantonalbank .
