Saint-Jean d'Orbestier Abbey

Château d'Olonne is a former French commune in the Vendée in the region of Pays de la Loire . On January 1, 2019, it was incorporated into the Commune nouvelle Les Sables-d'Olonne . It initially had the status of a commune déléguée , but this was withdrawn by a resolution of the municipal council on February 4, 2019.

geography

The village is located around 100 kilometers southwest of Nantes , on the Côte de Lumière in the Bay of Biscay . It borders in the north on Olonne-sur-Mer , in the northeast on Sainte-Foy , in the east on Talmont-Saint-Hilaire and in the west on Les Sables-d'Olonne .

  • Saint-Jean d'Orbestier Abbey, built in 1107
  • Saint-Hilaire church, built in the 17th century in place of and from the stones of the eponymous castle, Château d'Olonne , which Cardinal Richelieu had torn down so that the English would not get stuck in it.
