Chūō-kōchi
Chūō-kōchi ( Japanese 中央 高地 , dt "central highlands") denotes the central part of the geographical region Chūbu in the middle of the main island of Honshū of Japan .
Expansion and subdivision
It includes the two prefectures of Nagano and Yamanashi , as well as the northern and eastern parts of Gifu Prefecture . The exact definition varies and includes Gifu either only the mountains and mountainous landscape, the former area of the historical province of Hida in the north or Tōnō (i.e. East Nōshū ) in the southeast.
Nagano, Yamanashi and Gifu in particular in the Hida definition are also referred to as the Tōsan region ( 東山 地方 , -chihō ), based on the historical region Tōsandō of the Gokishichidō system, whose southern areas include Tōsan.
Yamanashi and Nagano are also referred to as the Kōshin region ( 甲 信 地方 , -chihō ), which is derived from their predecessor provinces Kōshū and Shinshū .
The Chūō Line, a railway line that runs inland from Tokyo to Nagoya, is named after this.
climate
The area is a zone with a moderate climate and comparatively large temperature differences between day and night as well as summer and winter. May is the warmest month in the region, with temperatures usually below freezing in winter . The region has a short rainy season ( tsuyu ) in April and May, during which fog is frequent.
