Chahuarani (also Chawarani ) is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

Chahuarani is the sixth largest town in the Municipio Icla in the Jaime Zudáñez province . The village is located at an altitude of 2548  m on the Río Jatun Mayu , which flows into the Río Icla , a tributary of the Río Pilcomayo .

Chahuarani is located in the southern part of the Cordillera Central mountain range in the transition area to the Bolivian lowlands. The region has a typical daytime climate in which the temperature fluctuations during the day are greater than the average temperature fluctuations over the year.

The mean average temperature of Icla is around 18 ° C (see climate diagram Icla), it is a mild 15 ° C in June and July and reaches around 20 ° C from October to March. The annual precipitation is almost 600 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 100 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.

Chahuarani is located at a distance of 105 kilometers by road southeast of Sucre , the capital of Bolivia and the department.

From Sucre the 976 kilometer long highway Ruta 6 leads east , which connects Sucre with the Bolivian lowlands and the metropolis Santa Cruz there , and reaches the city of Tarabuco after 67 kilometers. From Tarabuco a high road then leads south to the village of Icla and on via Chahuarani to Jatun Mayu and Thaqo Pampa .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Icla 98.6 percent of the population speak the Quechua language. The life expectancy of the newborns in the municipality was 56.0 years, the infant mortality increased slightly from 9.2 percent (1992) to 9.7 percent in 2001.
