Icla is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
location
Icla is the central place of the Municipio Icla in the province of Jaime Zudáñez . The village is located at an altitude of 2373 m at the confluence of the Río Jatun Mayu in the Río Icla , 16 km before this flows into the Río Pilcomayo , which belongs to the river system of the Río Paraná and the Río de la Plata .

Icla is located in the southern part of the Cordillera Central mountain range in the transition area to the Bolivian lowlands. The region has a typical daytime climate in which the temperature fluctuations during the day are greater than the average temperature fluctuations over the year.

Icla is located at a distance of 100 kilometers by road southeast of Sucre , the capital of Bolivia and the department.
From Sucre the 976 kilometer long highway Ruta 6 leads east , which connects Sucre with the Bolivian lowlands and the metropolis Santa Cruz there , and reaches the city of Tarabuco after 67 kilometers. From Tarabuco a high road then leads south to the town of Icla .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Icla 98.6 percent of the population speak the Quechua language. The life expectancy of the newborns in the municipality was 56.0 years, the infant mortality increased slightly from 9.2 percent (1992) to 9.7 percent in 2001.
tourism
The " Cañón de Icla ", which begins directly south of the village and is traversed by the Río Icla, is a popular tourist destination. It has a length of about 6 km and cuts up to more than 200 m into the plateau.
Another attraction in the region are recently discovered dinosaur tracks, which, according to the Reuters news agency, are 140 million years old and are the oldest so far discovered footprints of this species in Bolivia. According to the Argentine paleontologist Sebastian Apesteguia, the traces can be assigned to three different types of dinosaur, including an ankylosaurus , of which there have not been any footprints that go back as long in the entire southern hemisphere.
