The Challenge Regensburg is a long-distance triathlon competition (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running), which was held in Regensburg in 2016 and 2017 .
organization
This competition was part of the Challenge Family World Series and the first edition took place on August 14, 2016. Due to a change in organizer, the race was a follow-up event to the Ironman Regensburg , which took place here from 2010 to 2013. This challenge competition was organized by the "Purendure Event GmbH", whose owners were the triathlete Sonja Tajsich and her husband Thomas.
For August 13, 2017, the national umbrella organization, the German Triathlon Union, had awarded the organizers of the Challenge Regensburg the hosting of the German championships over the long distance and the starting field was limited to 1000 registrations: 600 individual starting places, 300 Challenge For-Two teams and 100 relays .
The course record has been held by Jan Raphael with 8:02:32 hours since 2017 and Diana Riesler with 8:51:02 hours for women .
The ETU canceled the event originally planned for the ETU European Championship on the long distance at the Challenge Regensburg on August 12, 2018. In December 2017, Purendure Events GmbH & Co. KG had to file for bankruptcy and cancel the planned event for 2018.
Route
- The swimming at the Challenge Regensburg took place in the Guggenberger See : In the recreational area 12 kilometers outside of Regensburg, 3.86 kilometers of swimming are covered.
- The bike course over 180.2 kilometers led to the Erstaustragung 2016 in two rounds through the national park Bayerischer Wald and has about 1500 meters of altitude on. In 2017, three instead of two laps were ridden on the new bike course. With a total of 600 meters of altitude, the new route was flatter than at the first edition in 2016.
- The final marathon on a four-lap running route was in the center of Regensburg . The route leads along the Danube and through the alleys of the old town, before it passed through the finish in the area of the Regensburg Cathedral of St. Peter .
