Khamis al-Gaddafi

Khamis al-Gaddafi ( Arabic خميس القذافي, DMG Ḫamīs al-Qaḏḏāfī ; English Khamis Gaddafi ; * May 27, 1983 †?) Is a Libyan military man . He is the seventh and youngest son of the former ruler Muammar al-Gaddafi and his second wife Safaja Farkash . In 2011 and 2012 his death was reported and denied several times. Moussa Ibrahim , the former spokesman for Muammar al-Gaddafi, is also said to have denied the most recent death report from October 2012 . It is unclear whether Khamis al-Gaddafi is still alive.

Education and career

On April 15, 1986, at the age of two, Khamis was injured in the head during the bombing of the Bab al-Aziziya military camp as part of Operation El Dorado Canyon . He left the military academy in Tripoli with a Bachelor of Military Sciences and then continued his studies at the Frunze Military Academy continued. He then took part in a general staff course in Moscow .

In 2008 Khamis al-Gaddafi visited Algeria and was received by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika .

Since April 2010 he has been studying for a master’s degree at IE Business School (formerly Instituto de Empresa ) in Madrid . He was expelled from this school in March 2011 because of “his connections with the attacks on the Libyan population”.

He was the commander of the Khamis Brigade (32nd Brigade), an elite unit of the Libyan armed forces .

Death reports

2011

  1. The death of al-Gaddafi was first reported in March 2011. According to unconfirmed reports, he died on March 20, 2011 during the civil war in Libya as a result of injuries in a suicide attack by a deserting jet pilot on the Bab al-Aziziya barracks complex . However, the Libyan regime denied the pilot's crash. On 28/29 In March 2011, pictures of Khamis were shown on Libyan state television, in which he was cheered by supporters of the regime. It could not be determined with certainty whether the recordings were current.
  2. For the second time, Khamis al-Gaddafi was pronounced dead on August 5, allegedly being the victim of an air strike.
  3. Afterwards, his death was announced again on August 23, when the news channel Al-Jazeera reported that his body had been found next to that of Abdullah al-Senussi , who was head of the Libyan secret service under al-Gaddafi's father.
  4. A few days later, his death was reported for the fourth time.
