Khanskaya ( Russian Ханская ; Adyghe Хъанхьабл ) is a Staniza in the Republic of Adygea ( Russia ) with 11,245 inhabitants (14 October 2010).

geography

The place is located on the right bank of the Kuban tributary Belaya, about 13 km as the crow flies northwest of the center of the republic capital Maikop and 12 km southeast of the city of Belorechensk in the neighboring Krasnodar region .

Chanskaja belongs to the Maikop district .

history

The place was founded during the Caucasus War 1817-1864 on October 20, 1862 as a Cossack settlement and later elevated to Stanitsa. It got its name from the river Chanka, which in turn is named after the residence of a Crimean Tatar chan , which according to a local legend is said to have been in the area.

Khanskaya lies on the opened on this section in 1910 and 1967 electrified railway Belorechensk (Beloretschenskaja)  - Maikop - Kamennomostsky (Chadschoch) at kilometer 11 east to place bypasses the regional road R253 that of Ust-Labinsk coming of the railway line between Belorechensk and Maikop follows.
