Charapaxi is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Charapaxi is the central place of the Cantón Charapaxi in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Licoma Pampa in the province Inquisivi and is located at an altitude of 2300  m twenty-five kilometers east of the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Real between the villages of Licoma and Inquisivi .

Charapaxi is located in one of the valleys on the east side of the Quimsa Cruz cordillera , between the Bolivian Altiplano in the west and the Amazon lowlands in the east.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 19 ° C (see climate diagram Cajuata), the monthly values ​​fluctuate only slightly between a good 16 ° C in June and July and a good 20 ° C in December and January. The annual precipitation is about 900 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August and a wet season from December to March.

Transport network

Charapaxi is located at a distance of 261 kilometers by road east of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the asphalted highway Ruta 3 leads 60 kilometers northeast to Unduavi , from there the unpaved Ruta 25 branches off in a southeast direction and after 69 kilometers reaches Chulumani . From there it leads via the localities of Irupana and Cajuata to Charapaxi and on to Inquisivi and Independencia (Ayopaya) . After a total of 481 kilometers, the Ruta 25 meets the Ruta 4 near Vinto , which reaches Cochabamba for a further fifteen kilometers .
