Charles-Henri Favrod (born April 21, 1927 in Montreux ; † January 15, 2017 in Morges ) was a Swiss journalist , author , photo historian, curator and collector .

Life

After studying literature at the University of Lausanne with a degree in history, Charles-Henri Favrod worked as a journalist and reporter for the daily La Gazette , also for its weekly supplement Gazette littéraire . In 1985 the canton of Vaud commissioned him to manage the Museum of Photography in Lausanne . This became world famous under the name Musée de l'Elysée . Charles-Henri Favrod remained its director until 1996. He left the museum to found the Museo Nazionale Alinari della Fotografia in Florence , which opened in 2006, on behalf of Fratelli Alinari . The photo historian was considered one of the most important mediators of photo culture in Switzerland.
