Charles William Duncan Jr. (born September 9, 1926 in Houston , Texas ) is a former American manager and politician ( Democratic Party ).

biography

After attending school, he completed his military service in the United States Air Force , studied chemical engineering at Rice University and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemical Engineering. He then completed a postgraduate course in management at the University of Texas until 1949 . He then began his professional career as a chemical engineer at Humble Oil Co. and at the same time at Duncan Coffee , which his uncle Herschel Mills Duncan founded and later became Duncan Foods Company .

In 1959, Duncan acquired Duncan Foods Co. and was its president until it was sold to the Coca-Cola Company in 1964. He then became a member of the board and managing director of Coca-Cola and was finally President of Coca-Cola from 1971 to 1974 Company. He then served on the board of directors of Rotan Mosle Financial Corporation .

1977 he was appointed as successor to Bill Clements Deputy Defense Minister ( Deputy Secretary of Defense ). As part of a reshuffle of his Cabinet he called US President Jimmy Carter finally on 24 August 1979 as a successor to James R. Schlesinger to Energy Minister ( Secretary of Energy ). He held this office until the end of Carter's tenure on January 20, 1981.

Most recently, Duncan was a curator ( trustee ) at Rice University.
