Danny Ray Brouillette (* 18th August 1962 in Paincourtville , Louisiana ) is an American politician of the Republican Party and entrepreneurs. He has been the United States Secretary of Energy in President Donald Trump's cabinet since December 4, 2019 . Before that, he had been Deputy Minister of Energy since August 2017 .

Life

Dan Brouillette is a graduate of the University of Maryland . He is married and has nine children, all of whom were home-schooled. He and his wife are US Army veterans . He lives in San Antonio .

career

After serving in the United States Army , Brouillette served from 1989 to 1997 as an associate of Congressman Billy Tauzin . From 1997 to 2000 he was Vice President of the R. Duffy Wall & Associates consulting firm . Brouillette was Deputy Secretary for Congressional and Government Affairs at the US Department of Energy under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2003 . He was then chief of staff to Billy Tauzin and from 2003 to 2004, when Tauzin chaired the committee, he was also chief of staff of the Committee on Energy and Trade . Brouillette was involved in the Crafts Regulations of the Energy Act of 2005, particularly in relation to the Ministry of Energy Loan's Guarantee Program and the federal permit for the import and export of liquefied natural gas. From 2004 to 2006, Brouillette was Vice President of Ford Motor Company and led the company's domestic policy teams. He was also a member of Ford's North American Operating Committee. In 2006, Brouillette was hired as public policy officer and vice president of the United Services Automobile Association , which provides financial services to individuals and families who serve or served in the US military. From 2013 to 2016, Brouillette was also a member of the State Mineral and Energy Board of Louisiana.

On April 3, 2017, President Donald Trump announced that he would appoint Brouillette as US Deputy Secretary of Energy at the US Department of Energy . Brouillette was ratified by the U.S. Senate on August 3, 2017 . He was sworn in as Deputy Minister for Energy on August 8, 2017.

On October 18, 2019, President Trump announced that he would appoint Brouillette as US Secretary of Energy. Acting Minister Rick Perry had announced that he would be stepping down by the end of the year. On November 7, 2019, President Trump officially nominated Brouillette and sent his nomination to the Senate. Perry officially resigned as Secretary of Energy on December 1, 2019, making Brouillette incumbent minister as his appointment before the U.S. Senate was pending. The next day, December 2nd, the Senate confirmed his nomination with 70-15 votes. Brouillette was officially sworn in on December 11, 2019.
