Chemnitz Arena
The Chemnitz Arena is a multifunctional hall for sports competitions, concerts, major events, trade fairs and congresses. It was opened at the beginning of 2003 by Federal Transport Minister Manfred Stolpe by converting the production hall for aircraft engines built in 1959 on the site of the former Wanderer works . The renovation cost 30 million euros. The client was TLG Immobilien GmbH, which rented it to EMC (Event- und Messegesellschaft Chemnitz).
location
It is located on Neefestrasse ( B 173 ) and can be reached via the A 72 (Chemnitz Süd) and A 4 (Chemnitz Mitte) motorways. There is also a direct connection to the Chemnitz-Glauchau railway line (Hp. Chemnitz-Schönau).
On event days, the CVAG bus line M1 runs between the exhibition grounds and Chemnitz main station .

The hall has a flexible and easily variable equipment. This also includes the seated mobile grandstands.
The capacities are for
- Trade fairs: 11,000 m² in 2 halls and 8,000 m² in the outdoor area.
- Sports competitions depending on the size of the playing area: 3,000 to 7,000 seats.
- Concerts: 7,000 seats to 13,000 standing places
2400 parking spaces are available for visitors
In front of the exhibition hall there are still 2 of the former 4 test towers for aircraft engines, which were built in 1959 to protect the population from noise.
Users
Sports
In 2017 the Chemnitz Arena was used for the first time by the Niners Chemnitz basketball club . For the 2019/20 season , the club will move from the Richard-Hartmann-Halle to the larger arena. In addition, the hall serves as a venue for the following events: Supercross event, Freestyle Motocross WorldCup, Germany's largest indoor beach volleyball tournament, indoor cycling World Cup , ice shows e.g. B. by Katarina Witt .
Events
A wide variety of concerts with national and international artists took place here. Examples are Sting , Bryan Adams , Udo Juergens , Nena , James Last , André Rieu , Die Ärzte , 50 Cent , Sportfreunde Stiller , Die Toten Hosen and Die Söhne Mannheims , Rammstein , Frei.Wild and others.
Also musicals such as Phantom of the Opera , The Hunchback of Notre Dame , Fairytale Musical Snow Queen are listed here regularly.
In addition to regional exhibitions and trade fairs, the Exota, Europe's largest and most species-rich bird exhibition in the world, takes place regularly in the Chemnitz Arena.
Political events such as state party conferences have already taken place in this hall.
