action

The young girl Asuna ( 明日 菜 ) plays with a crystal radio in her free time, which emits strange sounds and melodies. One day a monster ( Quetzalcoatl ) suddenly appears and attacks Asuna. Asuna is saved by an unknown boy, who cornered the Quetzalcoatl with a sparkling jewel. The boy reveals himself as Shun ( シ ュ ン ), who comes from the hidden land of Agartha .

Asuna's class teacher Ikeda is going on maternity leave . The class receives a substitute teacher, Mr. Morisaki. This tells the class bizarre stories about the dead and mysterious beings. One afternoon Asuna goes looking for Shun. She has many questions that she would like him to answer. However, she doesn't find him and when it starts to rain, she goes home to her mother. One day later, Ms. Ikeda said that a body was found in a river. The deceased boy is Shun.

Shun's younger brother Shin ( シ ン ) then leaves Agartha and enters the human world. Shin's job is to protect the gate to Agartha. His activity is disturbed by the Arcangeli, who persecute him and want to enter the world. When the Arcangeli manage to pursue Shin to the gate, the leader of the troop reveals himself. It is Asuna's teacher Ryūji Morisaki ( 森 崎 竜 司 ). He would like to go to the legendary land of Agartha to see his wife Lisa, who died many years ago. Asuna would like to come with Morisaki, whereupon they both come to Agartha through the so-called threshold sea. There they discover a flying ship called Shakuna Vimana in the sky, with which the gods supposedly travel.

During their journey through Agartha, Morisaki and Asuna discover many ruins of former cities and towns. When they spend the night near these ruins, Asuna suddenly has a nightmare when she is kidnapped by two strange beings, called Isoq. Mimi, a cat who came to Agartha in Asuna's backpack, tries to attack one of the Isoqs, but is knocked unconscious in the process.

The next day Asuna wakes up in an old ruin of the Isoq with a little mute girl named Mana. When they try to eat them up, Asuna discovers that the Isoq can only survive in the shadows. When she and Mana take refuge on a stone pedestal, both are saved by Shin, who was able to track down Asuna's Clavis crystal. Shin is seriously injured in the action.

Thanks to Mimi's help, Morisaki finds the unconscious bodies of Asuna, Shin and Mana. After they wake up, they move on to the village of Amaroth. However, due to a misunderstanding, Morisaki has to knock Shin unconscious again. At first some soldiers want to drive the four out of Amaroth, but the village elder offers them accommodation where they can stay overnight. When Morisaki and Asuna leave the next day, Asuna is horrified to find that Mimi no longer wants to come with her. Mimi dies that same day, and Mana hands Mimi's body over to a Quetzalcoatl.

When Morisaki and Asuna are already in the mountains, they are suddenly attacked by the soldiers from Amaroth. Shin appears surprisingly and gives the two a big head start. When Morisaki tries to descend on the threshold of life and death, called Finis Terrae , Asuna gets very scared and stays behind. She hands Morisaki her clavis and he gives her his pistol.

As she is being pursued by the Isoq, Asuna takes refuge in a river, which then suddenly recedes. When the Isoq approach her, Shin rescues her again. Then both watch as Shakuna Vimana disappears in Finis Terrae. With the help of the Quetzalcoatl you can also get down there.

In the meantime, Morisaki has arrived in the valley of Finis Terrae with some wounds. This turns out to be the Quetzalcoatl cemetery. In the middle of the valley is a large black ball that serves as a portal. Morisaki walks through and is on a large, flat, grassy plain. Stars can be seen in the sky, which is not possible in Agartha. Shakuna Vimana lands in front of him and transforms into a very large figure with countless eyes all over his body. This figure is the deity of Agartha. Morisaki wishes that his wife Lisa lives again, and indeed the soul of the deceased appears. Now, however, the deity demands a body that the soul can occupy. A few minutes later, Asuna and Shin also enter the portal. When Asuna finds Morisaki, Lisa's soul penetrates Asuna, whereupon Shin tries with all his might to destroy the clavis, which he finally succeeds. As a result, Lisa's soul disappears from the world of the living and Asuna wakes up again. Morisaki, who lost his sight as the prize for resurrecting his wife, wants to be killed by Shin. But Asuna comforts him and can convince him that it is a blessing to share life with death. Afterwards Asuna returns to the surface, but receives from Shin the clavis of her father, who was a resident of Agartha, back. With this she can travel back to Agartha if she wants. Morisaki stays in Agartha with Shin.

main characters

  • Asuna Watase ( 渡 瀬 明日 菜 , Watase Asuna )
Asuna is an ambitious student who attends Ms. Ikeda's class. After the death of her father, she was given a small crystal with which she switched on a small radio. With her radio she can hear sounds from the land of Agartha. One day she meets the boy Shun, who comes from the depths of Agartha and lives underground. She has a lot of questions to ask him. Shun dies because daylight costs him an enormous amount of life. In order to bring Shun back to life, Asuna allies with the Arcangeli Ryūji. Together they travel to the land of Agartha and are accompanied by Shin.
  • Ryūji Morisaki ( 森 崎 竜 司 , Morisaki Ryūji )
Ryūji Morisaki comes as a new teacher at the Asuna school. However, he teaches with an ulterior motive: his wife Lisa died many years ago and he would not want to go on without her. Together with the Arcangeli he explores Agartha and wants to revive the soul of his wife Lisa with a clavis stone. However, this fails and the wandering soul wants to establish itself in Asuna.
  • Shun Canaan Preases ( シ ュ ン , Shun )
Shun wants to be able to reach for the stars, which is why he comes to earth. He comes from the land of Agartha, which is hidden under the earth. Shun takes a lot on itself, because usually underground inhabitants do not survive long on earth. He gets to know Asuna and protects her from a monster that also comes from Agartha. Still weakened by the monster's attack, he dies.
  • Shin Canaan Preases ( シ ン , Shin )
Shin is the younger brother of Shun. Both look very similar. He comes to earth to protect the gateway to Agartha. To be able to guarantee this, Shin has to fight back against the Arcangeli. At first he doesn't trust Ryūji and Asuna as they are normal people and are not welcomed in Agartha. Shin is very good friends with Seri, a girl his age.
