Chou Chieh-yu (born December 2, 1986 ) is a Taiwanese pool player . She won the gold medal at the World Games in 2013 .

Career

In 2007, Chou Chieh-yu reached the semifinals of the Taiwan Women's 9-Ball Championship. At the 9-Ball World Championship in 2008 she reached the quarter-finals. In November of the same year she moved into the final of the All Japan Championship , in which she had to admit defeat to the Chinese Pan Xiaoting . In May 2009 she was eliminated from the 9-ball World Cup in the round of 16. A few weeks later, she won the Amway World Open, an international professional tournament for the first time. The 10-Ball World Cup , which was held for the first time in November, ended for them in the round of 16.

In 2010 she won the Japan Open and reached the quarter-finals of the 9-ball World Cup . At the 2010 Asian Games she won the silver medal in 9-ball and bronze in 8-ball. The following year she reached the finals of the Beijing Open, in which she lost to Cha Yu-ram , and made it to the quarter-finals of the China Open and the second round of the 9-Ball World Cup . In 2012 she won the Amway World Open for the second time in March and defeated her compatriot Tan Ho-yun in the final of the All Japan Championship in November . At the two world championships in the summer of 2012, however, she had to admit defeat again early on: in 9-ball in the round of 16 and in 10-ball in the round of 32.

In March 2013, Chou reached the semi-finals at the Amway World Open. In July 2013 she achieved her greatest success to date at the World Games in Cali, Colombia : In the 9-ball competition , she made it to the final with victories against Mirjana Grujicic and the gold medalists of 2005, Jasmin Ouschan , and 2009, Kelly Fisher , in which she defeated the then 10 world champion Kim Ga-young with 9: 8 and thus became the first Taiwanese woman to win the gold medal. A few days later she was eliminated from the 9-ball World Cup in the round of 32, at the 10-ball World Cup in the round of 16. In November 2013, she reached the semi-finals of the All Japan Championship and lost to the later Tournament winner Akimi Kajitani .

In March 2014, Chou won the Amway World Open for the third time. At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2014, she lost to the Chinese Chen Siming in the round of 16 . A year later she won her first World Cup medal when she reached the semi-finals after victories against former world champions Allison Fisher and Yu Han , where she lost 7: 9 to defending champion Liu Shasha . At the 2016 World Cup , she was eliminated in the round of 16. At the 2017 World Games , Chou won her opening game as defending champion against Ina Kaplan , but then lost in the quarter-finals 8: 9 against Chezka Centeno from the Philippines .

Team career

At the Team World Cup , Chou was the only woman on the Taiwanese team twice. In 2012 she became world champion, in 2014 she reached the quarter-finals.
