Location and geography

View from Galaxidi to Chrisso and Delfi

Chrisso is located on the south-south- western foothills of the Parnassos Mountains a short distance west of ancient Delphi , southeast of the city of Amfissa and northeast of the port cities of Itea and Galaxidi . Desfina is located south-southeast of Chrisso. Chrisso is located at the beginning of the eastward foothills of the Krissa plain (today the Amfissa-Itea plain) in the direction of Delphi or on the eastern edge of the Krissa or Amfissa-Itea plain. South of Chrisso runs a small river called Plistos or Krissa, which passes the village coming from Delphi and Arachova from the east and then flows into the Gulf of Itea (formerly: Gulf of Krissa) near the ancient city of Kirra (east of today's Itea).

history

The name Chrisso is derived from the ancient city of Krissa ( Greek  Κρίσσα ), which was built between the 14th and 15th centuries BC. According to Homer , it is said to have been founded by the Cretans. It was inhabited by the Phokers.

In the 19th century Chrisso was the seat of a bishop with a population between 1,200 and 1,500.
