Christa Miller (born May 28, 1964 in New York City , New York ) is an American actress and ex-model .

Christa Miller, daughter of the photo model Bonnie Trompeter , took her first steps in show business as a toddler as a photo model of Francesco Scavullo . One of her pictures can be seen on the cover of Redbook magazine . She wanted to become an actress at an early age, but could not realize this dream because of other plans her parents had with her. Her father was hoping for a career as a lawyer for her and her mother, as a former top model, knew only too well how tough a job in show business could be. Miller was sent to a convent school. Despite everything, she decided to pursue a career as a model and was featured in various magazines, including on the cover of the first Maxim . Her work also took her to Europe and Japan .

At 16, Miller shot her first ad for Polaroid . She played her first role in 1985 as a guest on the television series Kate & Allie . She auditioned for this role herself and received it without the help of her aunt Susan Saint James , who starred in the series. In 1990 Miller moved to Los Angeles . First she appeared in guest roles in television series such as Alaska , Seinfeld , The Prince of Bel-Air and Party of Five . Miller mostly only had film appearances in television films such as Stepfather III - Father's Day or Andromeda - Deadly Dust from Space .

In 1995 she got a role as Kate on the new sitcom Drew Carey Show and made her breakthrough here. In 1999 she married the television producer Bill Lawrence . After leaving the Drew Carey Show in 2002, she made frequent guest appearances on Scrubs , a production by her husband. She has three children with Lawrence (* 2000, 2003 and 2006). Her last two pregnancies flowed into her role as Jordan Sullivan in Scrubs . For her role in Scrubs , Miller was nominated for a Satellite Award in 2003 and 2004 for "Best Supporting Actress in a Series (Comedy / Musical) (Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Comedy or Musical) " .

From 2009 to 2015 Miller starred in the role of Ellie Torres in the comedy series Cougar Town , which was also produced by her husband.
