Susan Saint James (* 14. August 1946 in Los Angeles , California as Susan Jane Miller ) is an American film actress .

Life

Childhood and youth

Saint James, whose parents are from Connecticut originate, grew up in Rockford ( Illinois on). She has two siblings. As a teenager she attended the Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart , a Catholic private school in Lake Forest, Illinois, but later moved to Connecticut College in New London (Connecticut). Although she resigned from the Catholic Church at a young age, she rejoined later.

Career

As a teenager she was a model in front of the camera and received orders from France , among other things . At the age of 20, she moved to California in 1966, where she made her debut as an actress in the drama Fame Is the Name of the Game , directed by Stuart Rosenberg . She achieved her breakthrough as a supporting actress in the short-lived television series The Name of the Game , which was produced from 1968 to 1971. She was nominated for three Emmy Awards and received the coveted award in 1969. In McMillan & Wife , a television series that appeared from 1971 to 1976, she played the serial wife of Rock Hudson , and was nominated three times for the Golden Globe Award and just as often for the Emmy. In the 8th season of MASH (episode 23 Hero and Heroine), which aired on March 3, 1980 on CBS, she had a guest appearance as war correspondent Aggie. However, Saint James' career came to an abrupt halt from the mid-1980s. Between 1984 and 1989 she stood on the side of Jane Curtin in the series Kate & Allie in front of the camera and was nominated for two Emmys.

Later life and personal life

Saint James moved to Connecticut in the early 1990s, where she became involved with charities, including the Special Olympics . In 1998, together with her sister Mercedes and a friend, she founded the company Seedling & Pip , which produces gift baskets for newborn babies.

She has been married three times so far. From July 1967 to December 1968 she was married to the screenwriter Richard Neubert. In November 1971 she and the make-up artist Tom Lucas stepped in front of the altar. The two had two sons, Harmony and Sunshine Lucas. Harmony Lucas now works as an actor and film producer. After divorcing Lucas in September 1977, Saint James found happiness in November 1981 with the film producer Dick Ebersol . The couple, who are married to this day, had three sons, Charles, William and Edward. Saint James suffered a severe blow in November 2004 when a plane crashed with her husband and two of their sons in Colorado . While her husband and son Charles survived, their son Edward, who was only 14 years old, was killed. In his honor, a baseball field in Boston ( Massachusetts ) in Teddy Ebersol Field renamed.

Susan Saint James holds five honorary doctorates from five Connecticut colleges, the University of Connecticut , the University of Bridgeport , Southern Connecticut State University , Albertus Magnus College, and the University of New Haven .
