McMillan & Wife is a full- length American crime series starring Rock Hudson . The total of 40 episodes were broadcast from 1971 to 1977 as part of the NBC Mystery Movie, alternating with series such as Columbo , A Sheriff in New York and Hec Ramsey .

Stuart McMillan heads the San Francisco Police Department as Police Commissioner . He is married to the much younger Sally. Although McMillan is not actually entrusted with solving criminal cases due to his managerial position, the couple repeatedly become involved in murder and robbery over the course of the series. Sgt. Charles Enright and the housekeeper Mildred stand by the couple.

Towards the end of the first season, Sally is pregnant, but pregnancy is never discussed again in the following seasons. In the fourth season the couple has a son, who is never mentioned again in the following seasons.
