Susan Michaela Sullivan (born November 18, 1942 in New York City , New York ) is an American actress who became known through television series such as Falcon Crest and Dharma & Greg .

Career

Sullivan began her career at the Repertoire Theater in Washington, DC before appearing on Broadway with Dustin Hoffman in the play Jimmy Shine . In 1964 she received her first, small television role; in the following years she played in series such as Petrocelli , Kojak - Einsatz in Manhattan and Reich und Poor . 1977 followed the role of Dr. Julie Farr on the television series Having Babies , which earned her the first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series .

She had her breakthrough in 1981 as Maggie Gioberti-Channing in the television series Falcon Crest . She played this role from 1981 to 1989 and was nominated three times for a Soap Opera Digest Award . As Kitty Montgomery , the snobbish mother of Greg Montgomery , she appeared in the sitcom Dharma & Greg from 1997 to 2002 and was awarded for a Golden Globe in the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini- Series or Motion Picture nominated. From 2009 to 2016 she starred in the crime series Castle as Martha Rodgers , mother of the main character played by Nathan Fillion , crime writer Richard Castle .

Private life

Sullivan was married twice and divorced twice; she has two sons. She has lived with writer and psychologist Connell Cowan for more than 15 years and has a sister and brother.
