Christian August Valentiner
Christian August Valentiner (born June 26, 1798 in Flensburg , † March 27, 1864 in Hamburg ; pseudonym: Petersen ) was a German Lutheran theologian .
Life
Christian August Valentiner came from an old academic family in Schleswig-Holstein. He was the son of Georg Wilhelm Valentiner, most recently from 1825 until his death in 1836 as chief pastor at St. Mary's Church in Flensburg . Friedrich Peter Valentiner , Georg Theodor Valentiner and Friedrich Wilhelm Valentiner were his cousins .
Valentiner moved to Kiel University in 1818 to study theology. Later he moved to the University of Jena . During his studies he became a member of the old Kiel fraternity in 1818 and of the original fraternity in Jena in 1819, and in 1821 he was a co-founder of the Kiel fraternity Germania . Four years after starting his studies, he passed his official theological examination at Schloss Gottorf . He then worked as a private tutor in Dresden and in 1824 was employed as a catechist at St. Petri Church in Copenhagen . Four years later he moved to Heiligenhafen as the main pastor . As such, he was called to Flensburg in 1837 as his father's successor. When the Danish government in Schleswig-Holstein came to power again in 1850 , many clergymen were removed from their offices, including all three pastors Valentiner.
Since there were hardly any chances for him to continue practicing a spiritual profession there, he moved to Hamburg to give private lessons from then on. He did so until his death at the age of 65.
He was married to Emma, b. Cooking (born May 19, 1805 in Glückstadt ; † May 3, 1845 in Flensburg), a daughter of Albrecht Heinrich Matthias Cooking.
