Life

Jahns received his first school lessons in his native Afferde, after his confirmation he moved to Hameln, where he attended the local Latin school for three years . He then moved to Hanover and attended the Lyceum there for about two years , where he initially prepared to study theology. Then, however, he decided on elementary primary schooling and attended the preparatory institute of the Hanover school teacher seminar for three months , only to work as an adjunct at the Hamelin Schuler for a year and a half and as a private tutor in Bückeburg for two years . As a result of his professional experience, Jahns shifted the focus of his work away from languages to natural science subjects and pedagogy.

So he again attended the Hanover school teacher seminar, at which he passed his Matura exam on Michaelis 1832 and was then accepted as a real member of that institution. There he deepened his knowledge within two years under the direction of the institution inspector Friedrich Gottfried Rettig and the senior teacher Friedrich Krancke , in particular in catechetics and elementary mathematics . Michaelis in 1834 the High Royal High School College gave him teaching in the lower classes of the Hanoverian Lyceum. In the same year he became - after he had passed his rector examination - vice rector at the Neustädter boys school in Hanover under his father-in-law, rector Ernst Justus Ludwig Fromme .

In 1852 the city council of Hanover employed Jahns at the middle school as the main teacher of the fourth grade.

Jahns published various school books, some of which were available in bookshops, in several editions, such as a textbook on the German language and a biblical story for Protestant youth.
