Virág Vörös (born July 12, 1999 in Szombathely ) is a Hungarian ski jumper .
Career
Vörös made her international debut on February 21, 2014 at the FIS Cup competition of the Trambulina Valea Cărbunării in Râşnov . At the end of January 2015 she took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2015 in Tschagguns and came in 22nd. Also at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Almaty a week later she had no chance and was 32. Two weeks later Vörös missed the qualification for the competition on the normal hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Falun .
As part of the FIS Carpath Cup , Vörös reached the podium for the first time in September 2015 in Râșnov as second. In the overall ranking of the Carpath Cup 2015/16, she finished third. About a month later, Vörös became Hungarian champion, although she had no competition in the senior sector. In winter she only competed at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer and finished thirteenth. At the beginning of summer 2016, Vörös was allowed to take part in the competitions of the Alpine Cup. She drew attention to herself with three victories in Klingenthal and Pöhla . A few weeks later a fourth victory followed in Bischofsgrün . At the end of August 2016 she made her debut in Oberwiesenthal in the Continental Cup , where she was able to collect her first two points straight away. For the 2016/17 winter sports season, however, Vörös was out due to a torn cruciate ligament .
In the 2017/18 season, Vörös regularly took part in competitions of the FIS Cup and occasionally in those of the Continental Cup, but remained largely unsuccessful. In addition, she started at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2018 in Kandersteg , Switzerland , where she ranked 38th. A year later, she placed 44th at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Lahti in 2019 . On February 10, 2019, Vörös made his debut in the World Cup in Ljubno , but clearly missed the second round as third from bottom. It was similar for her at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld in 2019 when she missed qualification.
With two fifth places in the Continental Cup jumping competition in Szczyrk at the beginning of August 2019 , Vörös was in good early form, so that she also started in the Grand Prix on August 18 in Frenštát pod Radhoštěm . In the competition on the normal hill, she finished 23rd, making Vörös the first Hungarian to win Grand Prix points. In the overall ranking of the Grand Prix she reached the 36th place. Even in winter, Vörös tried his hand at the highest level in the World Cup , but was mostly unable to qualify for the competitions. At the end of January 2020, she finally made it into the points for the first time in Râşnov . This made her the first Hungarian female jumper to win a World Cup point. In March 2020, Vörös sustained serious injuries in a fall in the prologue of Raw Air 2020 in Oslo . A few days later the second cruciate ligament tear of her career was diagnosed. She therefore had to end her season prematurely, in which she was able to achieve her best overall results to date in the World Cup, the Grand Prix and the Continental Cup. In addition, she anticipated an injury break of up to nine months, which could endanger participation in the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf in 2021 .
