Christian Gottfried Friedrich Boeckh , also Böckh (born April 8, 1732 in Nähermemmingen near Nördlingen , Bavaria ; † January 31, 1792 Nördlingen) was a German educator and theologian, educational writer and editor . He was a specialist in Nordic poetry and the founder of Bragur magazine .

Life

He came from a bourgeois councilor (around 1500) and a Protestant family of theologians (from 1650) in Nördlingen and was the son of pastor Christian Gottfried Böckh in Nähermemmingen. He attended high school in Nördlingen and studied theology at the University of Jena . During his student years he was a member of the German Society .

Subsequently, from 1756 he was first tutor of the young gentlemen von Hinkeldey in Wertheim , from 1759 vice rector of the local grammar school and at the same time pastor in Waldenhausen (today part of Wertheim). From 1762 he was rector of the education (grammar school) in Esslingen am Neckar .

From 1772 Boeckh was initially a deacon , later a pastor and archdeacon at the main church in Nördlingen. Here he was also a member of the “General Library”.

Boeckh was among other things the author and editor of various educational writings. In 1778 he had the plan to publish a critical library for old German literature and in 1791, together with Friedrich David Gräter , founded the magazine Bragur in Leipzig , a literary magazine of the German and Nordic prehistoric times , the first two volumes of which he was still able to edit.

Boeckh married a sister of the poet and composer Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart . His younger brother Matthäus was the father of the classical philologist August Boeckh (1775-1867).

The engraver Christoph Wilhelm Bock made a picture of Boeckh in 1792.
