Christian Graf (politician)

Christian Graf (* 15. November 1821 in Wolfhalden ; † 19th July 1898 in Bruggen (St. Gallen) ; heimatberechtigt in Wolfhalden) was a Swiss doctor , mayor , cantonal parliament , Government and National Council of the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Christian Graf was the son of Sebastian Graf, manufacturer and councilor, and Anna Hohl. In 1847 he married Katharina Hohl. He entered into a second marriage in 1849 with Johanna Hohl. Both were daughters of the regional witness Johann Jakob Hohl and sisters of Johann Ulrich Hohl. He attended the monastery school in St. Gallen and studied medicine in Zurich , Heidelberg and Würzburg . In 1845 he obtained a doctorate in medicine . As a doctor, he practiced for a short time in Rehetobel , Speicher and Trogen . After that he owned a doctor's practice in Teufen . From 1854 to 1862 he sat on the town council of Teufen. From 1866 to 1869 he was the mayor of the municipality and from 1866 to 1870 as the Grand Councilor of Ausserrhoder . From 1870 to 1872 he held the office of chief judge . From 1872 to 1873 he was state ensign and from 1873 to 1875 state governor. From 1875 to 1877 he served as governor and from 1877 to 1878 as councilor. From 1873 to 1878 he sat in the National Council ( liberal direction). From 1893 to 1895 he held the office of the Cantonal Council. Graf always took a liberal - progressive position. From 1876 to 1888 he was a member of the board of directors of the Swiss Pension Fund . He was a battalion doctor in the campaign against the Sonderbund War .
