Christian Ludwig Boxberg
Christian Ludwig Boxberg (born April 24, 1670 in Sondershausen ; † December 1, 1729 in Görlitz ) was a German composer and organist.
Boxberg attended the Thomas School and the University of Leipzig . In 1692 he became an organist in Großenhain , at the same time he worked as a singer, librettist and opera composer. Between 1694 and 1700 several of his operas were performed in Leipzig Oper am Brühl , Wolfenbüttel , Kassel and Ansbach . His only surviving opera is the Sardanapalus , which he wrote in 1698 for the Ansbacher Hof as a guest performance at the Leipzig Opera and was therefore kept in the library. In 1702 he moved to the Church of St. Peter and Paul in Görlitz . From this point on he turned to church music. In 1704 he published the description of the local solar organ by Eugenio Casparini .
In his theatrical works he tried to succeed Nicolaus Adam Strungk to create a German national opera in his home country, but his works clearly show Italian and especially Venetian influences, which is probably due to Strungk's experience in Italy.
