Christian Ohrloff (born January 14, 1944 in Krakow , Generalgouvernement ) is a German ophthalmologist. As a university lecturer and scientist, he has been involved in basic research in ophthalmology for decades.

Life

Ohrloff grew up in Cracow and Leer (East Frisia) . After graduating from the Ubbo-Emmius-Gymnasium Leer , he studied medicine at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , the University of Vienna and the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg from 1963 . In 1964 he was reciprocated in the Corps Hasso-Borussia Freiburg . When he was inactive , he moved to the Free University of Berlin and the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich . After passing the medical state examination in Freiburg in 1968, he went to the Physiological-Chemical Institute of the University of Freiburg for two years. In 1970/71 he was a medical assistant in Berlin and Munich. With a dissertation on Karl Decker (biochemist) , he was in 1972 summa cum laude for Dr. med. PhD. He then traveled to Asia and South America. The ophthalmic training he went through in 1972 when Erich Weigelin , Manfred Spitznas and Michael Ulrich Dardenne at the Eye Clinic of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn . In 1979 he completed his habilitation in ophthalmology and experimental ophthalmology. Senior physician since 1979, he turned down the call of the Free University of Berlin in 1981 . He was appointed C3 professor in Bonn in 1982 and also turned down the offer of the University of Graz in 1986 . In 1988 he followed the call of the University of Frankfurt am Main to her chair for ophthalmology . As the successor to Wilhelm Doden , he was director of the Ophthalmology Clinic for over 24 years. He was President of the German Society for Intraocular Lens Implantation and Refractive Surgery (1996-2000) and the German Ophthalmological Society (1999/2000). From 2001 to 2017 he was press spokesman for the German Ophthalmological Society. Since 1989 he has been involved in the State Medical Association of Hesse . Since 2012, professor emeritus , he runs a ophthalmic private practice in Frankfurt. In 2011 he became President of the German-Chinese Society for Medicine.

Ohrloff has been married since 1974 and has three children.
