Christian Pander (born August 28, 1983 in Münster ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Club career

youth

At the age of five, Pander started his youth career at SC Nienberge. He was initially not into football and only continued to train because of his mother's persistence. Pander discovered his interest in football through the 1990 World Cup in Italy . From then on Pander played in the youth teams of SC Greven 09 and Preußen Münster . In 2001 he moved to the A-youth team of Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 . From the 2004/05 season he was a member of the professional squad.

From April 2005 to September 2006, Pander failed due to the consequences of a partial rupture of the inner ligament and the posterior cruciate ligament in the left knee. Although he could not play a single game due to this injury break, his contract with Schalke was extended during this time. From September 2006 he trained again with the professionals from FC Schalke 04. In the game against FC Bayern Munich on November 5, 2006, he ran for the first time for the Royal Blues and was able to play against Energie after three more games on November 18, 2006 Cottbus to score his first goal after the comeback.

Pander had to accept another injury break at the beginning of the second half of 2007. Shortly before the first game against Eintracht Frankfurt , he suffered a torn ligament. He was represented by Darío Rodríguez . From matchday 26, Pander was back in the starting line-up.

In the 2008/09 season he also had to struggle with many injury problems and therefore only played 17 league games, the last of which on May 10, 2009 at Borussia Mönchengladbach .

Since he continued to struggle with injuries in the 2009/10 season , he could not complete a single Bundesliga match in this season. On April 6, 2010, he returned to regular training with the new coach Felix Magath after an eight-month injury break . After another setback, he made his comeback in the Bundesliga on December 4, 2010 after a 17-month injury break in a 2-0 home win against Bayern Munich .

Hannover 96

His contract with FC Schalke 04, which expired on June 30, 2011, was not extended. He left the club and signed a one-year contract with league competitor Hannover 96 on June 19, 2011 . In January 2012, he extended his contract by three years to June 30, 2015. The contract that expired at the end of the 2014/15 season was not extended. After a year and a half without a club, he announced at the end of 2016 that he was ending his career as a professional footballer due to ongoing health problems.

National team

Pander was nominated by national coach Jürgen Klinsmann as a newcomer for the German national soccer team 's trip to Asia from December 13th to 22nd, 2004, in which he did not take part due to an injury. He played his first unofficial international match on January 25, 2005 in Gelsenkirchen in a charity match against a Bundesliga All-Star selection. After that, he didn't get another chance for a long time due to serious injuries. On August 22, 2007, two and a half years after his first nomination, he made his official debut in the senior national team against England with a start from the start. Pander's hobby interests include hip-hop music . Together with some friends from his hometown Münster, he tries his hand at rapping and has already founded the Hood Production label together with DJ Dokker. At the beginning of 2006 they brought the first mixtape on the market, on which you can also find some songs by Christian Pander aka "Funky Pee".

His sports shop, which opened in Münster in 2008, had to close in September 2009 due to weak sales figures.

After his career, Pander first studied sports management and then completed further training as a sports mentor and mental trainer. In 2019 he co-founded Kompass Sportmentoring GmbH.
