Christian Radovan

Christian Radovan , also Radovan-Coulter, (born May 7, 1962 in Linz ) is an Austrian jazz trombonist (trombone) and university lecturer.

Live and act

Christian Radovan grew up in South Africa and went to school in Pretoria . He later studied at the Vienna Conservatory. He also attended workshops a. a. with Peter Herbolzheimer , Jiggs Whigham in Germany and Jimmy Knepper in New York. In the late 1970s he was a member of Hans Koller's International Brass Company , in which the trumpeters Hannes Kottek , Karl Fian and Herbert Joos also played. Radovan then worked with them in the early 1980s on Mathias Rüegg's Vienna Art Orchestra's first albums , which were released on an extra recordand Hat Art appeared, such as Concerto Piccolo 1980, Suite for the Green Eighties 1981, The Minimalism of Eric Satie and Five Old Songs 1984 and Perpetuum Mobile 1985.

With Hannes Bauer and Wolter Wierbos , Radovan formed the trombone set in Cecil Taylor's big band production Alms / Tiergarten for the then Free Music Production in 1988 . Radovan later worked again on projects with the Vienna Art Orchestra , such as All That Strauss and Artistry in Rhythm - A European Suite in 2000.

Radovan has also worked with Joe Zawinul , Carla Bley , Eumir Deodato , Slide Hampton , Raul de Souza , Ray Charles , Natalie Cole , Gloria Gaynor , Chaka Khan , The Temptations , the Original Elvis Presley Band, George Tabori , Christoph Schlingensief and Abdullah Ibrahim .

Radovan has been teaching jazz trombone and ensemble playing at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz since 1989 . In 2016 he founded the Bruckner University Big Band , with which he has already toured several times.

His brother Andreas Radovan is a guitarist and singer. He works u. a. for television ( Kaisermühlen Blues ) and for the theater ( Burgtheater and other stages).
