Christian Scharpf

Christian Scharpf (* 1971 ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been Lord Mayor of Ingolstadt since May 1, 2020.

Life

Scharpf grew up in Ingolstadt and Gaimersheim. After primary and secondary school in Gaimersheim he attained in 1988 at the Freiherr von Ickstatt secondary school in Ingolstadt high school . The training as a banker at the Bayerische Vereinsbank was followed by the acquisition of the general university entrance qualification at the vocational school in Ingolstadt (1993) and the civil service in the municipal care for the elderly in the Heilig-Geist-Spital. He completed his law studies in Augsburg and Munich (with a focus on administrative law) with the first and second state examinations (2001). In 2004 he was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD; He completed a postgraduate course in European and international business law at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

After working as a lawyer (2002–2004), he joined the City of Munich as a lawyer in 2004 and, among other things, worked as a personal assistant to Lord Mayor Christian Ude from 2010–2012 . From 2012 to 2020 he was a senior civil servant in the board of directors of the state capital of Munich.

Scharpf is married and has three children.

Scharpf did not have a political mandate until 2020, but was active in the Munich City Hall for more than a decade for the local city leaders. He applied with the slogan “Time for a new political beginning” in Ingolstadt in the local elections.

Mayor election

On March 15, 2020, Scharpf applied with eight other applicants for the office of Lord Mayor of Ingolstadt. In the first ballot he received 33.6% of the vote, incumbent Christian Lösel ( CSU ) got 33.8%. In the runoff election on March 29, 2020, he achieved a majority of 59.3% of the votes; the turnout in the runoff election was 57.6%.
