Christian Weiss (philosopher)

Christian Weiss (often also white ; born May 26, 1774 in Taucha ; † February 10, 1853 in Merseburg ) was a German philosopher and educator .

Life

Weiss attended the Nicolaischule in Leipzig under Gottlieb Samuel Forbiger . In 1791 he moved to study philology, philosophy, theology and natural sciences at the University of Leipzig . In 1795 he was promoted to Dr. phil. doctorate and habilitated as a private lecturer in 1796 with the work De cultu divino interno et externo recte iudicando . From 1797 to 1799 he was a teacher in Holland . In 1801 he was promoted to associate professor at Leipzig University . In 1805 he followed a call as professor of philosophy at the high school in Fulda .

In 1808, when the French came to Fulda, Weiss went to the community school in Naumburg an der Saale as rector . In 1816 he came to the government in Merseburg as a government and school councilor . He stayed there until the end of his life.
