Christian Wilhelm August Königsdörffer (born May 24, 1781 in Dohna , † April 4, 1851 in Dresden ) was a German civil servant.

Life

Christian Wilhelm August Königsdörffer was the son of Anton August Königsdörffer, who later became auditor in Dresden.

In 1798 he began a four-year course at the Academy of Arts in Dresden during the winter semester ; In the summer half year he earned the necessary financial means for further studies through practical work. After its completion in 1802, he received the certificate of good talent in his own beautiful inventions, both in civil and higher architecture, and accepted the position of building inspector at Countess Callenbach in the Uckermark .

In 1810 he returned to Saxony and entered the civil service. He was entrusted with the supervision and maintenance of the bridges at Eilenburg , which were very important because of the troop marches to Russia at that time ; He kept this task until 1813. During this time, he was in charge of building several bridges in the vicinity of the city. During this time he also worked on the drawing of plans to bridge the Neva in St. Petersburg , which he presented to Nikolai Grigoryevich Repnin-Volkonsky and thus aroused his interest, so that these were partially carried out during the later construction.

In 1813 he was transferred to Dresden as agricultural manager ; In 1816 he was promoted to master builder and carried out many public buildings, but his most important work was the Wurzener Landbrücke. On December 19, 1830, the river bridge was released after seven months of construction, in 1831 the Mühlgraben Bridge was built in Eilenburg and on September 17, 1832 he handed over the land bridge there, delayed due to unrest among the construction workers.

In November 1835 the Leipzig-Dresdner Eisenbahn-Compagnie entrusted him with the construction of the Mulden bridge for the Leipzig – Dresden railway line and, in 1836, the Elbe bridge in Riesa , which he completed in March 1839. In addition to these tasks, the administration of several districts was entrusted to him, but this led to a deterioration in his health and a reduction in his eyesight, so in 1840 he submitted his request for dismissal, which he was then granted. He had to turn down the offer to reduce the number of his wards because he was so visually impaired that he believed that if he continued to work he would be neglecting his duties in this office.

In 1844 he was appointed to the commission that was supposed to examine the plans to bridge the Göltsch and Elster valleys . The commission was formed by the construction director Albert Geutebrück , the retired agricultural master builder Königsdörffer, the hydraulic engineering commissioner Johann Gottlieb Lohse, the agricultural master builder Carl Moritz Schlenkert († 1848) and the professors Johann Andreas Schubert and Gottfried Semper .

Christian Wilhelm August Königsdörffer married in Dresden in 1813.

At the time of his death he owned a brown coal works with eight pit fields in Karbitz .
