Christian Zimmermann (born Christian Brühe on December 12, 1961 ) is an entrepreneur and dressage rider . He has been competing for Palestine in sport since 2013 .

Entrepreneur

Zimmermann was born the son of a carpenter, his father managed the international exhibition construction company Uniplan . Christian Zimmermann studied business administration at the University of Cologne .

In 1987 his father's company got into financial difficulties, whereupon the lending banks hired the management consultant Roland Berger . During this time Christian Zimmermann took up a job in his father's company and interrupted his studies for a year. After completing his studies, he worked as a consultant at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants . In August 1990, at the request of the Supervisory Board, he joined the management of Uniplan. By 1993, he had taken over 49 percent of the company's shares from his father and Kreissparkasse Köln . In the following years he converted Uniplan from a stand construction company to an internationally active event agency , followed by the move from Kerpen to Cologne-Mülheim .

In 2000, Zimmermann completely took over the company from his father. Today he is CEO of Uniplan GmbH & Co. KG.

athlete

Christian Zimmermann already rode in his youth and competed in tests up to Grand Prix level. At the time of his first job in his father's company, he stopped riding at the age of 21. In 2006 he turned back to the sport: he started riding again, worked with a fitness trainer and ran several half marathons . He was initially trained in dressage by Jan Bemelmans , now the Finn Henri Ruoste is his dressage trainer. He bought several dressage horses and from 2010 competed in Grand Prix tests again , especially with the gelding Cinco de Mayo . In 2011 he competed in three international tournaments and completed all ten competitions (Grand Prix, Grand Prix Spécial and Grand Prix Freestyle) with over 60 percent each.

At the suggestion of acquaintances from Palestine, he took citizenship in 2011. Since Germany does not recognize the state of Palestine , this had no effect on his previous citizenship for the German authorities. He therefore also kept his German passport. Since March 2013 the World Equestrian Federation FEI has been running him as a Palestinian athlete. With results now regularly above 65 percent, he qualified for his first international championship, the 2014 World Equestrian Games . With Cinco de Mayo he achieved a result of 66.329 percent in the Grand Prix and finished the World Equestrian Games in 68th place out of 100 participants.

In June 2016 he came to over 70 percent for the first time at an international tournament, with Cinco de Mayo the judges rated him in the Grand Prix Freestyle of the CDI 4 * Achleiten with 70.500 percent. In addition, due to his success in the FEI Olympic rankings, he was listed together with Cinco de Mayo as the most successful couple in Olympic Group F (Africa / Middle East). In doing so, he secured a starting place for Palestine at the 2016 Summer Olympics , for which he was then nominated. He started in Rio de Janeiro with Aramis and reached the 57th place out of 60 starters with 63.271 percent in the Grand Prix de Dressage.
