Christian Zippert

Christian Zippert (born October 30, 1936 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ; † August 15, 2007 in Marburg - Michelbach ) was a German theologian , liturgical scholar and bishop of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck .

Life

Zippert grew up in Berlin , Breslau and Munich . He studied German from 1954 to 1956 in Munich and from 1956 to 1961 Protestant theology in Marburg and Göttingen . During his time in Munich he was part of the Munich Wingolf student association .

After his time as a research assistant and vicar in Marburg, Christian Zippert worked as a pastor from 1965 to 1973, initially in Marburg - Michelbach and then at the Lutheran parish church in Marburg. During this time he received his doctorate in 1969 with a work on the history of the Reformation on the subject of divine service in the theology of young Bucer at the theological faculty of the University of Marburg. Since 1963 he belonged to the Evangelical Michael Brotherhood and in 1968 he became the "elder" of the Upper Hessian convent of the brotherhood.

In 1973 he was appointed to the Evangelical Preachers' Seminar in Hofgeismar and was its director before he became provost of the Waldeck and Marburg district in Marburg in 1980 . In 1992 Zippert was elected bishop of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck (EKKW). After his retirement in 2000 he was community representative of the EKD Council until 2006 .

Since 1988 Zippert was honorary professor for the subject practical theology at the Philipps University of Marburg . He was active in liturgical science and shaped today's forms of worship. Zippert was a great friend of ecumenism, especially with the Roman Catholic Church. Reconciliation with the peoples of Eastern Europe was close to his heart. At the same time he was engaged in dialogue with Judaism.

His son Thomas Zippert has been Professor of Diakonics at the Diakonie University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld since 2011 .
