biography

The barons of Großschedel go back to the Regensburg patrician Franz von Großschedel, who was confirmed as imperial nobility in 1566.

Christian von Großschedel was the son of Marquard von Großschedel (1754-1828) and his wife Barbara Loeberger (1769-1824) from Steinsberg . The father enrolled in the Bavarian baron class on February 15, 1813, with the name title Großschedel zu Berghausen and Aigelsbach . He was a forester in Pfalz-Neuburg and later moved to the Electoral Palatinate or the Duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrücken , where he was the chief forester in the Schaumberg district between 1787 and 1795 .

Christian von Großschedel joined the Electoral Palatinate-Bavarian army and became an officer. From 1843 to 1845 he was in command of the 1st Bavarian Jäger Battalion , then he took over as chief of the 13th Bavarian Infantry Regiment until 1849 . In that year he was promoted to major general and was given command of the 5th Bavarian Infantry Brigade . With this he moved into the Rhine district in 1849 to suppress the Palatinate uprising . In 1854 he was in command of the 3rd Bavarian Infantry Division and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown ; on January 19, 1855 he retired.

Großschedel died in Bamberg in 1856. In addition to the Bavarian Order of the Crown, he wore the Bavarian Ludwig Cross and the Commander Cross 2nd Class of the Saxon-Ernestine House Order .
